TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

It is a test that measures the ability to use and understand standard American English at the university level. Many English-taught universities require this exam result from candidates. Educational Testing Services in the USA organizes this exam, which is held several times a year in most countries of the world.

Format and Content of the Exam

Depending on the way it is administered, the exam can take one of three ways:

The Computerized Test (TOEFL® CBT) consists of four parts. These sections evaluate reading comprehension, grammar knowledge, listening comprehension and writing skills. The difficulty of the questions in the listening and grammar sections is automatically adjusted by the computer during the exam, depending on the accuracy of the answers given. With the start of the test application on the Internet, the computerized test application has ended.

Written Test (TOEFL® PBT) is applied in test centres where the test is not given over the Internet or to provide an option for those who do not prefer to test over the internet. This test also tests the areas tested by the computerized test, but it contains more questions than the computerized test and the score of the written part is evaluated separately from the test part.

Testing on the Internet (TOEFL® iBT) has been used since 2006. In this form of exam, the grammar section has been removed; instead, the speaking section has been added. The exam consists of four parts: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.

How Is The TOEFL Test Scored?

The scores you will get in the TOEFL are based on your performance in the test questions. The exam consisting of 4 main parts as Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking; In each of the Reading and Listening sections, you must answer at least one question, write at least one essay, and complete at least one Speaking task.

Scoring according to departments:

Reading Section (Score: 0–30)

Listening Section (Score: 0-30)

Speaking Section (Score: 0-30)

Writing Section (Score: 0-30)

Total Score (0–120)

There is no successful or unsuccessful TOEFL score; higher education institutions and other organizations set their own score requirements. The result you will get from the TOEFL exam is valid for 2 years.
